Crossrail grout shafts
Drag the object around to rotate it and view it from different angles.
This space has a diameter of 4.5 m, the same size as the grout shaft at Charterhouse Square. Grout shafts were used to help stabilise the nearby ground and buildings.
At the bottom of each shaft pipes were fed out into the surrounding earth, allowing grout to be pumped into the soil. Farringdon was one of five locations on the Crossrail route where grout shafts were used.
